When submitting your wastewater discharge permit application, be sure to submit the grading report of your wastewater treatment system to the MA Department of Environmental Protection. This must be done for all wastewater treatment works, including pH neutralization systems.
Once submitted, the grading report is reviewed by the MA DEP, and a letter will be returned confirming the grade of the wastewater treatment system. The system grading will dictate the type of certification that will be required for the wastewater operators maintaining the system. Basic two-tank pH neutralization systems are typically graded Industrial Grade I systems, which is the most basic grade.
This step in the permitting process is sometimes overlooked so be sure to submit the grading report after you submit your wastewater treatment permit application to be sure that it happens.
