OSHA is Encouraging Incident Prevention

OSHA is strongly encouraging employers to join the trend towards incident prevention by identifying and addressing hazards before they lead to injury or illness. While employers are reviewing their OSHA 300 logs, they are asking companies to use these logs as a road map to finding and fixing hazards.

OSHA published a notice strongly encouraging employers to focus on preventing incidents, injuries, and illnesses rather than reacting to each accident. Each recordable incident on the OSHA 300 log should be reviewed to determine if there are any trends identifying potential issues. Incident reports should also be reviewed on a regular basis with the same intention of identifying types of incidents, equipment, processes, etc that need to be further evaluated to prevent future incidents. Proactively conducting job safety analyses, risk assessments, lab walk throughs, and holding interactive safety committee meetings are also excellent sources of proactively preventing incidents.

Take the time to review this valuable resource and encourage management to do the same.
