Maintain Compliant HepB Vaccination Records

If you have employees that fall under OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogen Standard working at your facility, be sure to maintain records of offering covered employees the Hepatitis B vaccine in accordance with the standard.

29 CFR 1910.1030(f)(2)(i) requires employers to make the HepB vaccination available to covered employees within 10 working days of initial assignment to duties that result in the potential for occupational exposure to human blood and other potentially infectious material. It is not sufficient to simply offer the vaccination to covered employees and take no further action because there are specific medical recordkeeping requirements stipulated in the standard. It should be clear who is responsible for offering the vaccination to new employees or newly affected employees. The responsible individual should be clear on the process, the follow up requirements, and the documentation requirements.

If you have not reviewed the specific documentation requirements yet, be sure to do so to ensure that you are maintaining compliant records.
