OSHA Safe + Sound Week

The fourth annual OSHA Safe + Sound Week is being held August 10-16, 2020. This national event is intended to promote the value of workplace health and safety programs. Employers are encouraged to hold events and activities that highlight the elements of their health and safety program during this week. It has been a huge success at Safety Partners’ clients who have participated in previous years!

Why participate?
Participating in the program is a great way to recognize your safety successes and show your commitment to safety! During the COVID-19 pandemic, occupational safety and health programs have never been more important, and this is a perfect time to reinforce yours.

It’s also a great opportunity to raise awareness of your safety program in a fun and engaging way. Participating in Safe + Sound Week can help get your program started, energize an existing one, and provide a chance to recognize your safety successes.

Remember- safe workplaces are sound businesses. Successful safety and health programs can proactively identify and manage workplace hazards before they cause injury or illness, improving sustainability and the bottom line.

Who should participate?
All types of organizations are encouraged to participate.  Businesses of any size and in any type of industry looking for an opportunity to recognize their commitment to safety are asked to demonstrate commitment by participating.  Last year more than 3,300 businesses helped to raise awareness about workers’ health and safety! There are currently 1,085 companies signed up for this this year’s Safe + Sound Week and registrations are still being accepted.

How can my company participate?

Companies can either participate privately, or officially register on OSHA’s Safe + Sound Week webpage. The webpage has lots of great ideas for Safe + Sound Week activities, many of which don’t take a lot of time to plan for. Some ideas include:

  • Spot safety in your workplace by making a poster with photographs of employees carrying out proper safety practices
  • Host an informal “lunch and learn” on an element of your safety program or COVID-19 return to work policy
  • Host a webinar on work from home ergonomics. Safety Partners can lead a one hour webinar for your organization!
  • Hold a demonstration on proper use of safety equipment including masks and gloves
  • Host a trivia session on how well employees know safety and health practices including COVID-19-related policies
  • Download and post Safe + Sound week social distancing signage from the Banners and Printables section of the Safe + Sound Week website
  • Have employees sign a banner to commemorate a new health and safety goal.
