Have You Considered a Constant Waste Handling Reminder?

After you have spent time and energy revamping your waste handling procedures and retraining lab workers, consider establishing a constant reminder to preserve your hard work. A waste handling flow chart can be created with pictures to clearly demonstrate how particular waste streams should be disposed of.

Consider including the flow of biohazardous sharps waste, red bag waste, non-regulated waste streams, and hazardous waste streams specific to your labs. When posted in conspicuous areas throughout the labs, these waste flow charts serve as constant reminders to properly dispose of waste. If there is any doubt about how to properly dispose of a newly generated waste, these charts can also serve as a reminder to ask about proper disposal rather than guessing which waste container is appropriate.

Any effort that can be made to encourage the proper waste handling practices followed at your facility is beneficial.
