The goal of Safety Partners' animal
care and use services is to actively support the
regulatory and managerial aspects of running an animal
facility, which enables the animal facility staff to
operate much more efficiently and productively. Our
animal care and use programs focus on two key areas:
providing humane animal care according to regulatory
guidelines and ensuring worker safety in the animal
facility.
Within this two-tier approach, we develop animal care and use
programs, manage the regulatory requirements of the facility, and
assist in the coordination and hiring of staff. We can also
implement animal care and use systems and handle some of the daily
and weekly tasks. Our program design accommodates all managerial
aspects of facility maintenance and is customized for each
facility's needs. Above all, Safety Partners is interested in
employee health and safety, which is integrated into all aspects of
the animal care and use program.
Our staff provides guidance to scientists in technical procedures
and advises clients on animal models and animal-based experiments.
We also have internal resources for expert biosafety risk assessment
for BL2, BL2+, and BL3 animal work, as well as ergonomics, radiation
safety, and industrial hygiene. When clients require Community
Representatives to sit on their in-house Institutional Animal Care
and Use Committees (IACUC), Safety Partners handles all facets of
recruiting and briefing qualified volunteers. Safety Partners can
also fill the role of a technical level animal care facility
employee as needed.
