Technical Consulting Safety Officer (tCSO)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • On-site client support work, working under the direct supervision of a CSO to maintain policies and procedures for procurement, use and disposal of hazardous materials, including, but not limited to:
    • Hands-on work to maintain and facilitate program requirements in Radiation Safety, Biosafety, and Chemical Safety - procurement, use, and disposal.
    • Hands-on work to maintain and facilitate program requirements in General Safety - basic life safety, general fire safety, hazard awareness, and emergency preparedness.
  • Support work for EH&S permitting. This may include filing applications, creating physical inventories, gathering paperwork, or other support functions as they apply to certain permits.
  • Coordinate all hazardous waste segregation, collection, and disposal. This may include waste pouring.
  • Order EH&S program materials, such as first aid supplies, spill kit supplies, signs, labels, etc.
  • Routine monthly, weekly, and daily tasks, such as fire extinguisher checks, first aid kit checks, satellite accumulation area checks, safety shower and eyewash flushing, bottle disposal, biowaste checks and radiation waste checks.
  • Maintenance of the Hazard Communication program, including chemical inventory, MSDS files, and signs and labels.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIREMENT FOR TRAINING/EDUCATION

  • Associates degree related field
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations
  • Some knowledge of OSHA, DEP, EPA, RCRA, DOT, DPH, MWRA, NIH, or NFPA
  • OSHA Emergency Response courses, awareness level minimum

JOB EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of science or EH&S related work experience

REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • Strong, professional communication and written skills with staff of all levels
  • Superior soft skills; ability to negotiate and promote safety programs and services
  • Able to positively interact with regulatory agencies
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Be productive in a dynamic, fast paced consulting environment
  • High level of professional judgment
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite

PREFERRED SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES

  • Experience in a laboratory setting
  • Radiation Protection - 1 or more courses
  • Principles and Practices of Biosafety or 1 or more courses targeting biological safety in research labs
  • Industrial Hygiene - 1 or more IH courses
